I have now added the final buildings to the layout, namely the lock keepers cottage and the signal box.
The lock keepers cottage is a model of the crossing keepers basic cottage at Leigh Wood crossing on the Minehead branch. It is made from card with the outhouse covered in Howards Scenics brick paper with the brick courses scribed and weathered;
The signal box is a model of the LSWR Standard type 1 box. The measurements are taken from the preserved box at Instow near Bideford and it is finished in the state as built with external framing. This was later boarded over to give the appearance as now preserved. I am indebted to Maurice Hopper a member of the LSWR Circle for the details and measurements. The main part of the box is built from plasticard and sits on a stone base made from the same stone paper as the goods shed;
All that remains to do now is the fine detailing of the garden etc, finish the grassing, add signals, build appropiate LSWR stock, add people and life, do the backscene, …………………………………..!
